Johnson Controls was founded by a group of mechanical engineers who saw a gap in the HVAC controls market. While large automation companies served mega-projects, mid-sized facilities were left choosing between oversized enterprise systems and basic standalone thermostats with no middle ground.
We built our business around that middle ground: controls solutions that are sophisticated enough for complex multi-zone buildings, yet practical enough for teams without dedicated BMS operators. Between 2004 and 2026, that approach has grown from a 12-person startup into a global operation serving 48 countries with 480 team members and 3 manufacturing facilities.
Today, our product range covers thermostats, electronic expansion valves, solenoid valves, temperature and pressure sensors, refrigeration controllers, and complete BMS platforms. Every product is backed by selection guidance, commissioning support, and a service network that responds within 24 hours.
From a single-product startup to a global controls partner — here is how we got here.
Started with a 12-person engineering team focused on electronic expansion valve controllers for mid-sized commercial buildings.
Released our first integrated BMS platform supporting BACnet MS/TP and Modbus RTU, expanding from components to full building automation.
Launched cloud-connected monitoring with real-time dashboards and automated alerting, enabling remote site management for multi-location customers.
Opened our third manufacturing facility to meet growing demand, bringing annual production capacity to 8,000 control systems and BMS packages.
